Dylan Teuns has won the first mountain stage of the Tour de France on Thursday. The Belgian was faster on the final climb than his fellow refugee Giulio Ciccone, who does take over the yellow jersey from Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe. Steven Kruijswijk lost time on his competitors in the battle for the overall victory.
27-year-old Teuns stayed eleven seconds after 160 kilometers of Ciccone. A minute later the Belgian Xandro Meurisse finished and Geraint Thomas was the best of the classification riders in fourth place.
The British defending champion came 1.44 after Teuns over the La Planche des Belles Filles. Thibaut Pinot and Alaphilippe followed at 1.46 from the stage winner and also Nairo Quintano, Emanuel Buchman, Jako Fuglsang and Mikel Landa were faster than Kruijswijk, who finished twentieth. Just like Bauke Mollema, the Dutchman from Jumbo Visma finished 2.19 from Teuns.
