Sweden's football star Lotta Schelin has ended her career at the age of 34 years. This decision was announced by the record scorer of the Swedish national team (88 goals in 185 international matches) at a press conference in Gothenburg.

Since a neck injury in June last year, the attacker of FC Rosengard suffers from chronic headaches. "It's been a tough year and it's still difficult," said Schelin in tears. Already at the European Championships 2017 in the Netherlands, she only played with painkillers and has not been able to compete since then.

At club level Schelin won among others three times the Champions League with Olympique Lyon, with Sweden's national team she won bronze at the 2011 World Cup and 2016 silver at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. In her homeland she was awarded five times as Footballer of the Year.
