ROME (Reuters) - Roma started their new season in the Italian league with a tough 1-0 win at Torino on Sunday in the first phase of the competition.

The team, who finished third in the competition last season, scored their first three points this season.

Roma, who won the match in the 89th minute with a superb shot from inside the penalty area, is credited with winning the win.

Later on Sunday evening, Sasulo surprised Inter Milan and beat them 1-0 in the first round of the Alcachio.

In a thrilling match, the same 2-2 draw was made for Parma, who return to the competition, with Udinese.

Empoli scored his first victory in the competition with a 2-0 victory over Cagliari, and Spal also grabbed a valuable win from Bologna.

Saturday matches
The tour opened on Saturday, with Juventus starting the campaign to defend the title with a difficult win at Chievo Verona 3-2 in a match that saw the first appearance of the official Cristiano Ronaldo with the team of the old lady.

Napoli also won a valuable win over Lazio 2-1.
