Hakobyan died at the age of 73, according to the official website of the Handball Federation of Russia. The causes of death were not disclosed.
Last season, Hakobyan advised Lada, although he was already experiencing health problems.
In 2016, Hakobyan was part of the coaching staff of the Russian women's national team, which won the gold of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Previously, the handball player Tolyatti "Lada" Daria Dmitrieva was recognized as the most valuable player in the season-2017/18 in the Russian Super League.
