FC Emmen has achieved a very important victory in the Eredivisie in the fight against relegation. The people from Drenthe beat Saturday night at De Oude Meerdijk FC Utrecht 2-0. In Arnhem, Vitesse registered a 4-1 win over PEC Zwolle thanks to a hat trick from Bryan Linssen.

Michael de Leeuw opened the score for Emmen against Utrecht after half an hour. The attacker tapped in close after a corner kick was headed in by Keziah Veendorp.

Ten minutes later Veendorp took care of the 2-0. The defender was given the space to play from 20 meters and shot the ball beautifully in the top left corner.

In the second half, Kjell Scherpen prevented the connection goal from Utrecht several times. First he kept Gyrano Kerk from scoring twice and moments later he saved on a bet by Cyriel Dessers.

Due to the victory, Emmen takes over the fourteenth place from Fortuna Sittard, which will still be closing NAC Breda on Sunday. The team of coach Dick Lukkien is now six points ahead of number sixteen De Graafschap, who later visits VVV-Venlo on Saturday.

With the defeat, Utrecht loses fifth place to Heracles Almelo, which won against Heerenveen (2-1) on Friday-evening. The formation of trainer Dick Advocaat was also passed by Vitesse and is now seventh.

Linssen leads ten Vitesse with a hat trick past PEC

In the GelreDome, Vitesse took the lead after nine minutes against PEC. Linssen headed in from a corner by Martin Ødegaard. Fifteen minutes later Lennart Thy brought the visitors alongside with a nice shot from the turn.

After about half an hour the Arnhem team had to continue with ten men through a red card for Alexander Büttner. The left back initially got yellow for a hard foul on Youness Namli, but on the advice of the VAR, referee Björn Kuipers gave a red card.

Despite the subtle situation, Linssen took care of the 2-1 shortly after the break. Also this time he was head-on from a corner. Mohammed Dauda increased the margin fifteen minutes before time after a nice heel from Thulani Serero and shortly thereafter Linssen completed his hat trick with another good header from a corner.

Because of the victory, Vitesse climbs to sixth place. The team of coach Leonid Slutsky collected as many points as Utrecht, but has a better goal balance than the 'Domstedelingen'.

For PEC Zwolle, which is in twelfth position, it will be particularly difficult to qualify for the play-offs for European football. The numbers five to eight qualify for those play-offs, unless Willem II wins the cup final against Ajax.
