On the afternoon of the 22nd, a 73-year-old man was found buried in snow under the eaves of a hut in Yokote City, Akita Prefecture, and was confirmed dead.

The police are investigating the detailed situation assuming that the man was removing snow from the roof and may have fallen.

According to the police, after 3:00 pm on the 22nd, a neighbor reported to the fire department that an elderly woman was looking for her son for a long time in Hiranozawa, Yamauchi, Yokote City.

When the police and fire department searched for him, Susumu Fujiwara (73) was found buried in the snow under the eaves of a hut on his home premises, and was confirmed dead on the spot.

A shovel was found nearby, and a neighbor witnessed Mr. Fujiwara clearing the snow from the roof on the 21st. I am looking into the details of the situation.

According to Akita Prefecture, two people have died by the 21st, falling from the roof or being caught in falling snow.

Akita Prefecture is calling for safety measures such as having two or more people perform snow removal work, and not getting close to the eaves as snow that has accumulated on the roof may fall.
