It is the chemistry of the "click" that has been honored this year.

The 2022 Nobel Prize in Chemistry has been awarded to the American Carolyn R. Bertozzi, her compatriot K. Barry Sharpless and the Dane Morten Meldal, the prestigious jury of the Royal Swedish Academy announced on Wednesday October 5.

They were rewarded for their work in the field of chemistry which makes it possible to "clip" molecules together like a snap button.

Second Nobel for Sharpless

Barry Sharpless, who introduced this concept in the early 2000s for rapidly synthesizing products, was already awarded a Nobel Prize in 2001.

The Nobel "season", which opened on Monday, has already distinguished Swedish paleogenetician Svante Pääbo, Nobel laureate in physiology or medicine, as well as French quantum physicists Alain Aspect, American John F. Clauser and Austrian Anton Zeilinger, awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics on Tuesday.

The announcements of the Nobel Prizes for Literature (Thursday), Peace (Friday) and Economics (next Monday) will follow in the coming days.
