National Highway No. 48, which connects Miyagi and Yamagata prefectures, is closed due to the avalanche that occurred in the mountains of Sendai city on the early morning of the 14th.

Due to the high temperatures, the Meteorological Observatory calls attention to avalanches for some time on slopes with heavy snowfall.

Around 1:30 am on the 14th, an avalanche occurred in Sakunami, Aoba-ku, Sendai City on Route 48, and about 15 km to the Sekiyama area in Higashine City, Yamagata Prefecture is closed.

According to the Sendai River National Highway Office, the snow on the mountain slope beside the road has fallen and is blocking the two lanes over a length of about 10 meters.

There are no injured people or cars involved.

At the site, the snow is removed with a shovel car, etc., but the Sendai River National Highway Office is calling for another road because there is no prospect of lifting the road closure.

Due to the warm air flowing from the south in Miyagi prefecture on the 14th, the maximum temperature until 11:00 am is 15.8 degrees in Shiroishi city, 15 degrees in Marumori town, 13.5 degrees in Sakunami in Sendai city, etc. The temperature is about the same as the middle to the end of April.

The Sendai Local Meteorological Observatory has issued an avalanche warning in the western part of Miyagi prefecture, saying that there is a risk of snow melting due to rising temperatures, calling for attention to avalanches for a while on slopes with heavy snowfall.
