During the 11 years from 2011, when the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred, to last year, the number of earthquakes observed in and around the epicenter of the huge earthquake off the coast of Tohoku has been declining gradually year by year, but it is still higher than before the earthquake. The Japan Meteorological Agency continues to call attention.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, during the 11 years from 2011, when the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred, to December last year, the number of earthquakes observed in and around the epicenter of the huge earthquake off the coast of Tohoku was approximately 652,500, of which in the last year. It was about 76,700 times.

Looking at the changes from year to year, the number of large earthquakes in 2011 was about 137,500, and after 2012, the number of earthquakes has been increasing and decreasing gradually.

However, before the earthquake, the annual average for the 10 years up to 2010 was about 19,000 times, which is still higher than the previous year, and last year it increased by 27,400 times.

Looking at the number of earthquakes with a magnitude of 5 or more, there were 1048 earthquakes in the 11 years up to last year, of which 32 were last year, an increase of 11 from the previous year.

The Japan Meteorological Agency struck a magnitude 7.3 earthquake in February last year with an epicenter off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture, and observed a maximum seismic intensity of 6 upper in Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures. I explain that it was because of it.

On the other hand, according to the long-term evaluation of the government's Earthquake Research Committee, there is a high probability that large earthquakes with a magnitude of 7 or more will continue to occur in the area along the "Japan Trench" from the Tohoku region to the offshore of the Kanto region.

Kazuki Miyaoka, Earthquake Information Planning Officer of the Japan Meteorological Agency, said, "11 years have passed since the great earthquake, and although the seismic activity has gradually decreased, the number of times is still high. It is possible that a big earthquake will occur, so I would like you to prepare for strong tremors and check how to evacuate from the tsunami. "
