Nagano Hakuba Village "Hakuba Taisetsukei" closed due to a large-scale collapse September 20, 7:40

The route that passes through "Hakuba Taisetsukei" in Mt. Shirouma in the Northern Alps of Nagano Prefecture, which is popular with mountaineers, has been closed since the 20th due to a large-scale collapse.

"Hakuba Taisetsukei" in Hakuba Village, Nagano Prefecture is located in a valley between Mt. Shirouma and Mt. Shakushi in the Northern Alps, and is a popular route for climbing on snow even in the summer.

According to the village, there was little snowfall due to the record shortage of snow over the past year, and the long rains and intense heat of this summer caused the snow to melt rapidly in the last few days, causing a large-scale collapse in the snowy valley18. Confirmed by the day.

For this reason, the village has closed this route from the 20th to ensure the safety of climbers.

The village says that it will be difficult to lift the regulations by the end of the year, and is calling for Mt. Shirouma to use the detour route from the neighboring Otari village side.

More than 30,000 people visit the village every year for the purpose of mountain climbing, but this is due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection, which has affected the mountain huts to be closed, and the number of people who visit the village until last month. At that time, it has dropped to about 30% of the same period last year.

The village says, "It's a pity that we can't reach the Taisetsukei, which is the main route for mountain sightseeing, due to abnormal weather."
