Fukuoka Ariake Sea coast Heavy rain causes a large amount of driftwood and debris to be recovered. July 16 12:09

Due to the record heavy rain, a large amount of driftwood and debris has flowed from the Chikugo River and other areas along the coast of the Ariake Sea in Fukuoka Prefecture, and the prefecture is engaged in recovery work.

On the coast of Yanagawa City, Fukuoka Prefecture, which faces the Ariake Sea, a large amount of driftwood and debris flow from the Chikugo River and cover the coastline due to the heavy rain this time.

According to Fukuoka Prefecture, the amount of driftwood, etc. is expected to rise to 1400 cubic meters on this coast alone, and prefectures are busy with sorting and collecting wreckage with heavy machinery and manual work.

In addition to the fact that jellyfish fishing is no longer possible in the surrounding area, there is a concern that if fine debris is washed offshore, it will be mixed with the Ariake Sea specialty seaweed.

Also, if the wreckage is left as it is, the function of the wave-eliminating block installed on the embankment may deteriorate during high tide.

Ryuji Nomiyama, director of river erosion control department of the prefecture office that manages the coast, said, "There are many people in the Ariake Sea who are engaged in fishing, and I want to remove them as soon as possible so that no debris will flow offshore."

Due to the heavy rain, a large amount of driftwood has flowed into the Yatsushiro Sea in Kumamoto Prefecture, and there is concern that it will affect the fishing industry.
