Temporary suspension of school due to landslide on school road 4 schools restarted after 6 days Gifu Takayama 13th July 12:50

In Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture, six elementary and junior high schools were temporarily closed due to landslides on school roads, but four schools reopened on the 13th and 6th.

Of these, at Asahi Junior High School in Asahi-cho, Takayama City, 10 out of 40 students could not attend school, and the school was temporarily closed from 8th of this month, but faculty and staff confirmed the situation of school attendance on the morning of 13th. The students who went back to school were happy to see their friends again.

However, one person could not go to school on the 13th because the road was in a dangerous state, and this student connected the classroom to his home via the Internet and took a class by live streaming.

Also, because of the landslides, the roads are narrowing and the school buses cannot be reached. Some parents have their parents pick up and drop off by car.

A second-year female student said, "I was safe at home, but it was tough because of the dirt on my way to school. I'm glad the school is restarting."

Chie Ushimaru, the principal of Asahi Junior High School, said, "It was a pity that we were closed due to heavy rain in addition to the new coronavirus. We would like to continue to properly confirm safety."

The Tochio Elementary School in Okuhida Onsengo and the Kitariyaka Junior High School in Kamitakacho are considering whether or not they can restart on the 14th, while seeing the restoration of school roads and rain conditions.
