Two months after the Great East Japan Earthquake, an unidentified body found in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture was confirmed to be a 99-year-old woman who lived in the city, and the remains were handed over to a relative's man on the 2nd.

The identity was confirmed by Kyu Abe (99 at the time) who lived in Minamihama-cho, Ishinomaki. On the 2nd, the remains were handed over to Kazuyuki Kanno (79) in the city.

Two months after the earthquake, Mr. Abe was found in the Takehama Inlet, Ishinomaki City, about 10 kilometers away from his home. When the police proceeded to examine their identities, it was confirmed to be Mr. Abe last month, more than nine years after the earthquake, as a result of DNA analysis.

Mr. Kanno said, "I think I'm glad that he finally came back and was held in my chest."

According to the prefectural police headquarters, there are now seven unidentified bodies associated with the Great East Japan Earthquake.
