Eruption on Nishinoshima, an uninhabited island in the Ogasawara Islands Beware of ash fall around the area. June 15 18:48

On Nishinoshima, an uninhabited island in the Ogasawara Islands, there have been a series of eruptions that have raised smoke from this month. The Meteorological Agency continues to issue the "Crater area warning" and warns that volcanic ash may fall on neighboring islands depending on the wind direction.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, an eruption was confirmed in December of last year for the first time in about a year in December, on an uninhabited island, Nishinoshima, about 130 km west of Chichijima in the Ogasawara Islands.

Eruptions continued after 12th of this month, and the state of the smoke was observed by the meteorological satellite "Himawari", and the smoke was up to 2600 meters at 3:00 pm on 14th and 1:20 am on 15th. It was confirmed that it had risen.

In Nishinoshima, it is considered that active eruption activity is continuing, since the area with higher temperature than the surrounding area is continuously observed.

The Japan Meteorological Agency has been calling on the "Crater Alert" to call attention to large volcanic blocks and lava flows within a range of approximately 2.5 km from the summit crater.

Depending on the height of the smoke and the direction of the wind, volcanic ash may fall on Chichijima. If ash fall is expected, the Meteorological Agency will call for the latest information, as a "fall reminder" will be announced.
