The International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) is in full swing and that is noticeable from the film selection, because three of the eight newly released films are documentaries. In addition, Knives Out appears, where a rich novelist is found dead in his country house and a detective has to find out which family member did it. The final piece of Penoza also appears.

On the day after his 85th birthday, the famous crime writer Harlan Thrombey is found dead on his estate. The charming detective Benoit Blanc is called in to investigate his suspicious death. He must make his way through a web of lies and deceit. Everyone in the family has a motive to want to kill Thrombey. Everyone is a suspect.

Everyone thought she was dead, but drug queen Carmen van Walraven is in Canada, where she leads a reclusive life as a waitress in a roadside restaurant. One day a colleague is harassed and Van Walraven intervenes. She shoots the perpetrator out of self-defense. Then it is picked up and delivered to the Netherlands. Her children are stunned that their mother is still alive and many people still have a bill to settle with her.

Parasite - drama

Parasite won the Golden Palm this year at the Cannes Film Festival. The film is about the unemployed Ki-teak and his family. They lead a poor life in a tight house. They become increasingly obsessed with the rich Park family and are determined to take advantage of their luxurious existence. The poor family continues to invade the life of the rich Parks and do not shy away from lies and deceit. But then an unexpected incident throws a spanner in the works, which means that they have to put everything in order to maintain their new luxury life.

The Trial - documentary

In 1930, Stalin accused a group of prominent economists and engineers in Moscow of plotting a coup against the Soviet government. Stalin ensured an enormous theatrical legal process in which both the witnesses, the suspects and the judges lied to themselves and the outside world. In this way, Stalin wanted to send a signal to anyone who could get it in his head to undermine his position of power. Filmmaker Sergei Loznitsa used archive footage to make the documentary The Trial .
