Sinterklaas and his Pieten sail back into the country on Saturday 16 November. The Sinterklaas party in Rotterdam starts on Saturday morning at 11.30 on Willemsplein, but the steamboat with Sinterklaas and its soot wipes only arrives at 12.30. See the entire program here.
Ahmed Aboutaleb, the mayor of Rotterdam, will receive Sinterklaas in a festive manner on Willemsplein on Saturday. The good saint will also be sung by Disco Piet, the Children's Choir Happy Weekend and all the Rotterdam children present.
Sinterklaas leaves with his soot wipes for a trip through the city at 1.30 pm.
From the Meent the procession goes via the Hoogstraat and the Schiedamsedijk to the Grotekerkplein. There the big final show starts at 2.25 pm where songs are sung and danced.
Traffic in the center of Rotterdam must take account of the crowds due to the entry on Saturday. Zalmstraat, Scheepstimmermanslaan, Vasteland and Schiedamsedijk are closed from 1 p.m. to about 2.30 p.m.
Churchillplein is also closed from 1.30 p.m. to 3.15 p.m. Car traffic is diverted there.
Finally, the Meent and the Rodezand close between 2:15 pm and 3:30 pm in connection with the procession.
Saturday will be a typical Dutch autumn day with gray weather, with a chance of some showers around noon.
A scarf and a warm winter coat are no superfluous luxury. With temperatures between 5 and 7 degrees it is pretty cool.
