Disposal of disaster waste Kumamoto City staff support Miyagi Marumori-cho 11 November 12:09

In Marumori Town, Miyagi Prefecture, which was damaged by the typhoon No. 19, the disposal of the increasing number of disaster waste has become an issue, and the staff of Kumamoto City who experienced the Kumamoto Earthquake has been dispatched to support them.

Two staff members from the Kumamoto City Waste Planning Division were dispatched to Marumori Town.

On the 11th, after receiving explanations from the person in charge at the town hall, we visited six temporary storage areas for disaster waste such as debris and broken furniture.

Due to the flooding damage caused by Typhoon No.19, it is estimated that in Marumori Town, disaster waste exceeds 19,000 tons, which is more than six times the annual amount of waste.

However, after the town staff of not only three people, also not catch up with acceptance by other local governments, the prospect of still processing that is approximately one month from the typhoon does not stand.

The staff of Kumamoto City will make use of the experience of the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake to support the planning of treatment.

Mr. Naoki Matsunaga of the Kumamoto City Waste Planning Division said, “In the Kumamoto earthquake, people in Miyagi Prefecture helped me, so I would like to make use of the knowledge that we have and cooperate as little as possible.”
