Relocation plan to raised land Typhoon flooded residential area Miyagi Ogo-cho Oct. 22 9:19

In Ogo Town, Miyagi Prefecture, which was severely damaged by Typhoon No. 19, the mayor presented to the residents a tentative plan to move the residential area in the flooded area to a raised land. Various opinions are given by the residents, and the town is considering concrete plans for reconstruction.

In Ono-cho, Miyagi Prefecture, the Yoshida River broke down and about 100 households were inundated.

On the night of the 21st, more than 20 residents, including local mayors, gathered at a public hall in Ogo-cho, and the mayor of Tanaka gave the first proposal for a new town planning plan.

According to the tentative plan, approximately 13.5 hectares that were damaged by flooding this time will be demolished as a “re-development area” to clear the entire house and use it as a cycling course.

Then, as a relocation destination of the house, the adjacent land will be raised and converted into residential land, and public facilities with functions of public halls and shelters will be constructed.

In response to the tentative proposals, local ward leaders and others expressed various opinions, such as “The questionnaire should be used first to ask residents about their intentions” and “The embankment should be given top priority”.

The town side emphasized that the details of the relocation, etc. were to be studied.

Mayor Tanaka said, “I thought I shouldn't spend time, so I presented a tentative plan as a starting point. I want to create a safe city for the next generation.”
