Non-life insurance company investigates damage from typhoon using drone Tochigi Oct. 17 12:32

In Tochigi City, Tochigi Prefecture, where damage such as flooding and landslides occurred in Typhoon No. 19, a non-life insurance company conducted a damage survey from the air using a drone.

Sompo Japan Nipponkoa, a major nonlife insurance company, receives a request from the local government in the event of a natural disaster and uses a drone to check the damage situation and provide a video.

On the 17th, we conducted a survey in Nabeyama Town, Tochigi City, where the Nagano River was flooded and houses were submerged in water or landslides and roads were cut off at multiple locations.

The person in charge operated the drone with the remote control on the roof of the junior high school, and filmed a range of about 2 km from the height of about 140 meters above ground for about 40 minutes.

The video taken is provided free of charge to Tochigi City, which can be used for understanding the damage situation and for future recovery.

“We hope to be able to help clarify the full extent of the damage. I hope for the immediate recovery of the damaged areas,” said Satoshi Japan Nipponkoa's Tochigi branch manager.
