Chuo Main Line Suspended from Yamanashi to Tokyo 2 hours and a half commuting by car on October 17 at 15:24

In Otsuki City and Uenohara City in the eastern part of Yamanashi Prefecture, there are many people who commute to Tokyo using the JR Chuo Main Line. Some people commute to work.

The JR Chuo Main Line has been suspended between Otsuki Station in Otsuki City, Yamanashi Prefecture and Takao Station in Hachioji City, Tokyo due to the influence of typhoon No. 19 on the track.

Since Otsuki Station is also the first rapid-service station on the JR Chuo Line, many people commute to Tokyo, but the train has stopped and no alternative buses are in service.

For this reason, there are people who give up commuting and take a break from work, while others are commuting by driving on unfamiliar roads with their own cars.

Kimio Ishii (60) in Saruhashicho, Otsuki City has been living on the Chuo Main Line for about one hour from Saruhashi Station to the workplace in Hachioji City for 40 years.

I started commuting on my car from the 16th, and on the 17th, I left home at about 5:30 am, an hour and a half earlier than usual. Because the Chuo Expressway and National Route 20 continue to be closed, we turned to another national road from near Sagami Lake, but there were many cars and traffic jams.

For this reason, I arrived at the office after 8am and took 2 hours and 40 minutes. Mr. Ishii said, “It is possible to sleep on a train, but commuting by car gets tired. It is painful to think about the way home. I want the train to be restored soon.”
