Nagano Ueda Electric Railway Bessho Line Partial operation resumed The collapsed section of the bridge is a substitute bus on October 15 at 17:26

The Ueda Electric Railway Bessho Line, running in Ueda City, Nagano Prefecture, which was severely damaged by Typhoon No. 19, resumed operation in some sections, and passengers were waiting for a restart on the entire line.

The Ueda Electric Railway Bessho Line continued to be unable to operate on all lines due to the collapse of part of the bridge over the Chikuma River.

From the morning of the 15th, the number of trains was reduced between Shimonogou Station and Bessho Onsen Station, and the operation was resumed. In addition, a substitute bus started between Ueda Station and Shimonogou Station, including the section where the bridge collapsed.

At Ueda Station, a flyer about a substitute bus was erected, and passengers asked the station staff about the boarding location and departure time.

A woman in her 90s living in the city as a passenger on a substitute bus said, “I want to get back to the hospital as soon as possible because I use it for hospitals and shopping.”

In the section where the operation resumed, there were some railway fans who came to ride immediately.

A man in his 40s who came from Chiba Prefecture said, “I'm sorry that the iron bridge, a symbol of Ueda Electric Railway, has collapsed. I hope the entire line will open as soon as possible.”

Mr. Watanabe of the Ueda Electric Railway Department said, “If you use a substitute bus, you can go from Ueda Station to Bessho Onsen Station, so please come here.”
