Emergency release at Fukushima Mano Dam and Horikawa Dam Basin residents take action to save their lives at 23:33 on October 12

Fukushima announced that emergency discharges are expected to begin at around 11:30 pm at Mano Dam in Iitate Village and around midnight at Horikawa Dam in Saigo Village and Shirakawa City. These dams are designed to release naturally when the water level approaches full, and the start time is expected.

Because of this, the Mano River flowing through Minamisoma City downstream of Mano Dam and the water level of Saigo Village downstream of Horikawa Dam and Hori River flowing through Shirakawa City may suddenly rise, causing large-scale flood damage. The prefecture calls on residents of the basin to take actions to protect their lives.
