Grapes for wine Typhoon damage before harvesting Chiba Yachimata September 17 17:19

Even in Yachimata's vineyard, which is aiming to launch one of the few wineries in Chiba Prefecture, about half of the grapes that were planned to be harvested this season were damaged by the influence of typhoon No. 15.

In Hiroyuki Yamamoto's vineyard in Yachimata City, we cultivate about 600 grapes for wine in five varieties in a 2 hectare garden.

Harvesting was expected from the end of this month, but the strong winds of Typhoon No. 15 caused the fruit to fall on the ground or get damaged, as well as the poles that supported the grape branches.

I was expecting a harvest of about 3 tons, which was almost the same as last year, but the damage is about half.

The bag that prevents the insects and pests from being damaged was blown away by the wind, and Yamamoto-san decided to hurry the harvest so as not to get scratched.

The harvested grapes are planned to be entrusted to brewers to finish the wine in the same way as last year, and Mr. Yamamoto wants to proceed with the restoration of broken facilities, etc. with the goal of starting a winery in-house.

Mr. Yamamoto said, “It's been 10 years since we cultivated it, but this is the first time it has been damaged.
