Heavy rain Recovery of spilled oil Extensively difficult to reach Saga Omachicho, August 29, 14:02

In Omachi Town, Saga Prefecture, where oil spilled due to heavy rain, oil recovery work has begun in earnest since noon on the 29th, but the spilled area is difficult to reach.

At the Saga Iron Works Omachi Factory in the Omachi-cho Fukumo area, water flowed into the building due to heavy rain at around 4 am on the 28th and a large amount of oil spilled out to the surrounding area.

According to the factory, the leaked oil was heavy oil for cooling after heat treatment of the bolts being manufactured, and it seems that over 50,000 liters out of approximately 90,000 liters flowed out.

In the vicinity of the factory, an oil fence was set up from the morning of the 28th to 29th to prevent the oil from flowing into the river, and from the day before the 29th, dozens of town officials and SDF personnel came out to collect the oil. Started in earnest.

Recovery is being carried out using an adsorption mat that absorbs oil, but the spilled area is wide and takes considerable time.

According to the factory, there were eight tanks with about 10,000 liters of heavy oil in the building, but it seems that rainwater entered the tank and the oil overflowed.

The factory operates 24 hours a day, and it works with two people at night. In the future, police and towns will investigate the details of oil spills by listening to the staff of factories.
