Approaching typhoon Sea area around Kansai Airport No ship navigation principle from 14th August 13: 18:53

With the approach of the super large typhoon No.10, the Coast Guard Headquarters has decided to ban ship navigation in principle from the 14th in the waters around Kansai Airport.

The extra large typhoon No. 10 may land in western Japan on the 15th of this month, and the waves are already high on the Pacific side.

For this reason, the 5th Regional Coast Guard Headquarters has decided in principle to ban ships in accordance with the Maritime Traffic Safety Act in the sea area within approximately 5.5 kilometers around Kansai Airport from 3:00 pm on the 14th. Navigation is prohibited, except for some small vessels, until the typhoon storms.

At Kansai Airport, Typhoon No. 21 last September caused a tanker that was swept away by a strong wind to collide with the connecting bridge, leaving the airport temporarily isolated.

For this reason, this is the first time a new law has been enacted to apply such regulations when bad weather is expected from January.

The Coast Guard Headquarters wants to thoroughly prevent accidents by implementing regulations early.
