The Flemish government wants to give the entire population the opportunity to receive a booster shot of the corona vaccine.

The cabinet of Prime Minister Jan Jambon announced this on Friday.

In this way, Flanders wants to increase protection against corona infection.

Receive notifications about corona vaccines

After residents of homes, people with weakened immunity and the over-65s, the rest of the population will also have the opportunity to receive a third shot - or in the case of the Janssen vaccine a second shot.

The intention is to strengthen protection in the wider population in this way.

At the beginning of October, Belgium already obtained enough vaccines to provide the entire population with a possible third shot.

The corona policy is determined per region, which means that different rules apply in Wallonia than in Flanders.

In the Netherlands, the Health Council advised the outgoing cabinet to only give people with a serious immune disorder a third corona jab.

The government has followed this advice.

The Council also recommends making preparations to give other groups a so-called 'booster vaccination' as soon as the effectiveness of the vaccine decreases.
