The first vaccinated people can receive an extra shot against COVID-19 in early October.

Invitations will go out on October 6.

On 7 October, the first invited people can go to a vaccination location of the GGD.

The extra shots are intended for people aged twelve and older who have a severe immune disorder.

It is probably 200,000 to 400,000 people.

The first two shots may not have worked well for them.

It is possible that their immune system has not yet produced enough antibodies against the coronavirus, so that they have not yet built up enough protection.

An extra dose can help to make the immune system stronger.

At the third shot, they receive the vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech or that from Moderna, even if they had received a different vaccine first.

All invitations sent within four weeks

The invitations are sent in stages.

It will probably take three to four weeks before everyone is invited, RIVM expects.

Once people have received the invitation, they can make an appointment for an injection.

They can also walk in with the invitation in hand at free entry vaccination sites.

People who are in the middle of a treatment can't get their third shot yet.

According to the Health Council, it is not yet necessary to give the rest of the population a booster shot.

The vaccines still work well enough for them to limit the chance of hospitalization or death.
