Thorgan Hazard was the celebrated man at Belgium on Sunday evening by scoring the only goal in the eighth final match with Portugal (1-0).

The midfielder only really realized what impact he had after the game.

"When I see how many messages I have received, this has to be the most important goal of my career," said a satisfied Hazard after the game in Seville.

"It gives a wonderful feeling to score for your country, especially when it turns out to be such an important goal. I could not have dreamed of anything better."

The brother of Eden Hazard, two years younger, signed for the 1-0 in Estadio La Cartuja in the 42nd minute by shooting from a distance.

Goalkeeper Rui Patrício was clearly surprised by the effect that was in the ball and missed.

"It must have been a pretty bizarre shot for the goalkeeper," admitted Thorgan Hazard.

"The ball seemed to go to the left, but turned to the right. In matches like that you just have to shoot when you get the chance and with a touch of luck the ball went in."

Thorgan Hazard critical of referee Brych

Where Thorgan Hazard played a hero role, Eden Hazard dropped out.

The captain of the Belgians was replaced three minutes before the end with a hamstring injury.

Thorgan Hazard thinks his brother should have been more protected by referee Felix Brych.

"I can't say too much negatively about the referee, because then he will punish me again in the Bundesliga," said the Borussia Dortmund midfielder.

"But there were quite a few fouls against Eden that could have been penalized. He whistled very little. Still, I don't think we can really complain in general."

Belgium awaits another tough job in the quarterfinals, because the team of national coach Robert Martínez will then take on Italy.

The Italians settled with Austria on Saturday evening after extra time.
