If someone had said before the start of this season that Riitta-Liisa Roponen will be a World Cup medalist in March, then very many would not have believed.
Ropose, 42, who skied the third leg of the women’s 4x5-kilometer post, became not only a medalist, but the oldest World Championship medalist in the history of Nordic skiing.
This was confirmed when Finland beat Krista Pärmäkoski's magnificent Kiri with a World Championship bronze medal in Oberstdorf on Thursday.
Born in May 1978, Roponen, whose first medal of merit is also from Oberstdorf 16 years ago, eroded himself into the history of skiing in Oberstdorf in 2021.
Who would have believed?
