As early as December, YouTube reported that the popularity of video games had grown during the Crown Year.

Now, strong growth on the gaming front has been reported by Twitter, which has also shared data regarding gaming tweets.

More than two billion game-related tweets were written during 2020.

Compared to the previous year, the growth was more than 75 percent.

Gaming was the sixth most popular topic of discussion on Twitter as a whole.

Most game tweets came from Japan, the United States, South Korea, Brazil and Thailand.

The top 5 of the game topics were gaming, game news, esports, game influencers and PlayStation.

The number of tweets bypassing Esports increased by 14 percent year-on-year.

The list of top racing players was dominated by Fortnite stars, with the top two being Kyle “Mongraal” Jackson and Benjy “Benjyfishy” Fish.

In addition, Call of Duty legend Seth “Scump” Abner (3rd) and Counter-Strike star Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo (8th) reached the top ten.

    FaZe Clan’s number one spot didn’t come as a big surprise, as the mega-organization is involved in several favorite games and its content producers are top-rated.

    The team has also been in the headlines in recent years from various hustle and bustle.

    Surprising were Brazilian paiN Gaming and Flamengo Esports, both of which are fairly unknown names outside their territory.

    Only Cloud9, FaZe, 100 Thieves, G2 and T1 enjoy the popularity on Twitter of the “Most Valuable Esports Organizations” list published by Forbes.

    TSM, Team Liquid, Gen.G, NRG Esports and various teams from Enthusiast Gaming were excluded from the Forbes list.

    Of the Esports events, the most tweets were collected by the League of Legends Worlds, EVO Japan, the Brazilian LoL Series second season finals, the Call of Duty League finals and the Overwatch League finals.

    Of the games, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Fate / Grand Order, Disney: Twisted-Wonderland, Final Fantasy and Fortnite garnered the most attention on Twitter.

    The lesser known Fate / Grand Order and Disney: Twisted-Wonderland are Japanese free mobile games.

    The Genshin Impact and Apex Legends, among others, reached the top ten.

    Both Cyberpunk 2077 and The Last of Us II were left out of the top ten.

    Among the hit games of 2020, Among Us was 19th, Valorant 29th and Fall Guys 30th.

    Only the top five of the game events were revealed, which were in order: The 2020 Game Awards, The Future of Gaming on the PS5 Event, the Tokyo Game Show 2020, the Niconico Net Chokaigi 2020 and the Xbox Games Showcase.
