For the first time in its 175-year history, the US science

magazine Scientific American has given

an election recommendation - for the Democratic challenger Joe Biden.

"It's not easy for us," said an editorial for the October issue of the magazine.

"The evidence and science shows that Donald Trump did serious harm to the US and its people - because he rejects evidence and science."

The most devastating example of this is the "dishonest and inappropriate" reaction of the US president to the corona pandemic, which has so far claimed the lives of almost 200,000 US citizens.

But the scientists also cite his denial of climate change and attacks on the health system as irresponsible.

"So we urge you to vote for Joe Biden, who offers fact-based plans to protect our health, economy and the environment."

Trump attacks Biden

The magazine, which was founded in 1845, claims to be the oldest continuously published magazine in the USA and reaches ten million people worldwide.

Meanwhile, Trump renewed his accusation against Biden that he probably took stimulant pills to improve his performance in discussions.

"He takes something, or you already know, gives him some clarity, or whatever," Trump said in an interview with Fox News.

He again asked Biden to take him for a drug test before the television duel.

He too will undergo a drug test, said Trump, who is seeking re-election on November 3.

Biden responded to Trump's claims with a verbal attack.

Trump's statements were "stupid," said Biden in an interview with an NBC subsidiary.

"He's a fool," said Biden.

He is looking forward to the debate with Trump.

"Get ready, Mr. President. Here I come," he added.

The first debate between Biden and Trump is scheduled for September 29 in Cleveland.
