The EU's immigration package, which will be presented next week, will abandon the Dublin system, says EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Speaking to the EU Parliament, von der Leyen said the system would be replaced by a new European immigration management system.

The Dublin system determines which EU country is responsible for examining an asylum application.

It and its reform have been debated for years.

According to Von der Leyen, the proposal for a new system of governance includes a strong solidarity mechanism.
