Israeli police are investigating the mass rape of a 16-year-old girl suspected of having taken place in the city of Eilat in southern Israel, according to the BBC. Eilat is also a popular beach holiday destination among Finns - when the situation has allowed travel.

Two people have been arrested, according to the BBC. One of them has said that more than 30 men had sex with the girl, but denied it was rape. According to press reports, the girl has been intoxicated at the time of the crime.

The girl reported the matter to police a week ago on Friday. According to Israeli media, he arrived in Eilat with a friend earlier in August to meet his friend’s group of friends. They went for drinks together, after which the men took turns raping the girl in her hotel room.

Police said the girl's friend tried to help her boyfriend but was unable to stop the men. The identities of the suspects have not been made public, but according to the local Times of Israel, they are 27-year-old Israeli citizens.

Police arrested one of the men after finding video footage of a suspected rape in a message conversation between the man and the teenage girl. The man has denied communicating with the girl and claims someone else used her phone. According to the man, surveillance camera recordings show that more than 30 men had sex with the girl in agreement.

Israeli ministers have strongly condemned the act. The country’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, finds the act shocking.

- It's not just a crime against a girl. This is a crime against humanity and a totally reprehensible act, Netanyahu says on Twitter, according to the BBC.

According to Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz, the souls and morals of those involved in the mass rape have been corrupted.

- My heart is with you, you are not alone, Gantz says to the rape victim.
