The ANWB reports that it will be busy on Saturday on the roads to the beaches, including those of Hoek van Holland and Zandvoort. The roads in European holiday countries are also busy due to departing and returning holiday travelers.

The delays started early in the morning. There were already delays on the roads to Zandvoort, Castricum aan Zee and Hoek van Holland around 9.30 am. Due to the warm weather, the ANWB expects a lot of traffic on the roads to the beaches all day long. At around noon, 110 kilometers of traffic jam was reported on Dutch roads.

There are also long traffic jams on European roads on Saturday. On Saturday morning, holidaymakers heading south were already more than an hour and a half delayed between the French cities of Lyon and Narbonne. There are also early traffic jams on the Autoroute du Soleil.

In Germany, it will be very busy in both directions this weekend on the A7 between Hamburg and the Danish border.

ANWB: Prepare for heat

Due to the high temperatures, the ANWB advises people to be better prepared for the road. "Bring extra water and an umbrella. So that if you break down next to the guardrail, you can at least get some shelter," said a spokesman.

The ANWB recommended not to leave until after 10 a.m. on Saturday, in order to avoid the greatest crowds.
