Madrid (AP) - With Tour de France winner Egan Bernal and other Colombian cycling aces like Nairo Quintana at the top, the “flight of sport” from Colombia has arrived in Madrid, the newspaper “El Espectador” reported.

About 120 athletes - most of them cyclists, trainers, technicians and physiotherapists were on board the special flight from Bogotá to Madrid, which was supported by the government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the embassies and was accompanied by great public attention.

From the Spanish capital, many athletes go their own way to prepare for possible upcoming competitions such as the Giro d'Italia, the Tour de France and the Vuelta in Spain. Bernal moves to Andorra, Nairo Quintana and his brother Dáyer to France. "I hope I can enjoy the return," said Bernal. "The goal is to win the tour."

Before a possible tour start on August 29, he has several tests on his schedule, such as the Tour de l'Ain. Ineos has a lot of experience in preparing for the tour and knows how a driver is on the road and can best be used. "When it's my turn to help Chris Froome or Geraint Thomas, I'll do it because I'm driving for the Ineos team that pays me," said Bernal. "I hope, should it be the case, that they will do the other way round too."
