The Dutch can embrace their other half from outside the EU on 27 July. Minister Ferd Grapperhaus (Justice and Security) writes in a letter to parliament on Thursday that from then on an exception will be made for lovers of Dutch people, but that the travel ban for other residents of countries outside the European Union and the Schengen area will be maintained.

Dutch partners may stay in the Netherlands for a period of three months, every six months, as long as the corona crisis lasts.

The relaxed arrangement is based on the Danish working method. In that country, couples must be able to demonstrate that they have been in a love relationship for at least three months. They must also sign a contract stating that they are a couple.
