Traffic between Utrecht and Amsterdam must take into account a longer travel time on Thursday during the evening rush hour in connection with a serious accident with a truck on the A2 near Breukelen. The handling of the accident, which happened around 2:45 PM, is likely to take hours, Rijkswaterstaat reported at around 4:40 PM.
Only one lane is open at the scene of the accident. The Breukelen driveway is also closed. Road users towards Amsterdam can detour via the A12, A27 and A1.
A traffic jam of about 15 kilometers has arisen from Utrecht, according to the ANWB. The delay is over two hours.
According to Rijkswaterstaat and the ANWB, the accident involved several vehicles, including two trucks. Several emergency services, including a trauma helicopter, arrived on the scene.
One person was trapped by the accident. This was liberated by the fire brigade and taken to hospital, reports the Utrecht Safety Region. Two others were checked on the spot by ambulance personnel, but did not have to go to hospital.
The police have started an investigation into the facts of the incident. Vehicles must also be salvaged and any damage to the road surface repaired. Rijkswaterstaat expects that it will take until about 22:00 before all those matters are completed and the road is released again.
