Berlin (dpa) - The 15-year-old Fortnite professional «JannisZ» from Germany has won the European final of the Fortnite Champion Series Invitational.

Immediately after the last match of the tournament, the 15-year-old spoke in his Twitch stream about the success and reaction of his parents: "We were happy, hugged and cried," said JannisZ. Organizer Epic Games does not publish the real names of the partially underage players.

The path to the final was not easy for the teenager. He had to compete against the 99 best Fortnite players in Europe over twelve rounds. Although he could only celebrate one round win in all matches, he convinced with a constant performance over both days of the tournament. At half-time on Saturday, JannisZ was already in first place.

He kept these until the end. With a 20 point lead, JannisZ secured the overall victory and the prize money of 120,000 euros. Fortnite celebrities landed behind the 15-year-old: second place duo world champion Jaden “Wolfiez” Ashman from Great Britain and third place duo world champion David “aqua” Wang from Austria.

The “Fortnite Champion Series Invitational” is a regional replacement tournament series from developer Epic Games. Unlike in 2019, there will be no World Cup this year due to the current corona situation. At the end of April, Epic Games announced that all Fortnite tournaments would be held online in the near future.
