Two patients from a TBS clinic in Poortugaal, South Holland, took a staff member of the clinic hostage on Sunday afternoon under threat of a firearm and a knife and then fled, said the Public Prosecution Service. One of them died in the arrest of the patients on Sunday evening.
Around half past four the duo escaped from the clinic. Once outside, they got into a taxi and drove away. The police started the pursuit, after which the taxi on the A15 at the height of Kesteren in Gelderland was stopped.
The duo then ran to a nearby business park. There a firefight took place with the police, in which one of the men was wounded in a life-threatening manner and died on the spot. The other patient and the taxi driver have been arrested and are stuck.
The employee involved in the kidnapping was slightly injured. The police and the National Criminal Investigation Department are still investigating further.
