Former Artistic Director of Pori Jazz Jyrki Kangas is dead, Yle reported. According to Yle, Kangas died on Thursday night at the age of 76. Death is confirmed by Yle's Kang relatives. The death of Kangas was first reported by the people of Satakunta.
Jyrki Kangas was known as a long-time cultural activist from Pori. He served as the long-time artistic director of the Pori Jazz Festival until 2009. Kangas also served as executive director of the festival's backing association Pori Jazz 66 in the 1970s, 80s and 90s.
The fabric was known by the nickname “Mr. Pori Jazz ”and was seen in a documentary about Mr. Pori Jazz and the work of Kangas on the popular festival, entitled Mr. Pori Jazz.
During his career, Kangas also worked in radio and marketing. In recent years, Kangas was known as an environmental activist working for the protection of the Baltic Sea.
