Los Angeles (AP) - The comedy drama "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" won four trophies at the important US critics' awards. The work of the American director Quentin Tarantino was honored as the best film in Los Angeles.

A surprising result, since “The Irishman” was the favorite - the mafia epic had received 14 nominations in advance.

Joaquin Phoenix was recognized as the best actor at the "Critics' Choice Awards" for his role in the thriller "Joker" and Renée Zellweger as the best actress for her appearance in the drama "Judy". The South Korean Bong Joon-ho and the British Sam Mendes shared the trophy in the best director category.

The makers of «Avengers: Endgame» caused an embarrassing moment in the hall. The superhero spectacle was voted the best action film - only there was no one from the team on site to accept the award on stage. A German production had not been nominated in any category. Two years ago, “Out of nowhere” by the Hamburg director Fatih Akin won the prize in the category “Best non-English-language film”. This time the foreign trophy went to “Parasite” by Bong Joon-ho.

The “Critics' Choice Awards” were presented for the 25th time this year. More than 400 members of the Broadcast Film Critics Association from the United States and Canada selected the winners.
