Moscow (AP) - The Norwegian Magnus Carlsen defended his title as world champion in blitz chess in Moscow on Monday. On Saturday, he had prevailed in rapid chess again after four years.
"The tie-break was a very nervous affair, but in the end I prevailed," he said after defeating the Japanese Hikaru Nakamura, "I'm very happy." Carlsen, who also holds the title in classic chess, ends the year as world champion in all three formats of the game. In 2014 he succeeded for the first time.
