Hello and welcome to this live blog. My name is Matthijs le Loux and I will keep you informed this afternoon and this evening about the developments in the American House of Representatives. There, there are debates about the two indictments that will form the basis for a lawsuit in the Senate. Because of the Democratic majority in the House, it is almost certain that these articles of impeachment will be adopted. The leadership of the Democratic and Republican parties is negotiating how the trial will take shape.

What can we expect today? Expect a debate with a lot of emotion and political theater and expect many delays due to Republican opposition. Voting is not entirely certain today: if the debate continues well into the evening of the United States, it can be decided to postpone the vote to Thursday.

We started with a motion to cancel the session of the House. This was jointly and severally voted on. A motion is now being discussed that accuses Democratic leadership, including Adam Schiff, the chairman of the intelligence committee, of breaking House rules. One of the complaints is a well-known one: Schiff refused to call the whistleblower who complained about the telephone conversation between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to testify. He regularly came by during the public hearings.

Voting is taking place again. That will take fifteen minutes.
