Berlin (dpa) - The Vice President of the EU Commission, Margrethe Vestager, has pointed out the enormous energy consumption of the Internet and the consequences for climate change. With further digitization, consumption will increase, she told the Funke media group. Watching films on the Internet is very energy-intensive. This is a major challenge for the EU's stated goal of making the continent climate neutral by 2050. Last year, the streaming platforms would have consumed about as much electricity as all private households in Germany, Italy and Poland combined.
