Rome / Bari (dpa) - The Italian government intervenes in the rescue of a crisis-ridden regional bank. The Bank of Italy placed the Volksbank Banca Popolare di Bari under state supervision, said the Council of Ministers in Rome. The bank's governing bodies had been dissolved and two state commissioners and three other people had been appointed as members of a monitoring committee. The bank itself named “property losses” as the background of the measure on its website.
