Augsburg (dpa) - In the search for the perpetrators of the deadly attack on a passerby in Augsburg, the police relies on the evaluation of image and video material.

Possibly today, the investigators in coordination with the relevant prosecutor with such material to the public, said a police spokesman. This is currently being examined.

Further evidence to find the previously fugitive suspects may result from the testimony of the victim's wife. "The woman could not be heard yet because of her mental state," said a police spokesman.

The 49-year-old had been attacked and killed in a dispute with a group of young men after Friday's investigation. Along with his wife and a friendly couple, the later victim was traveling downtown when they came across the group.

"For the description of the perpetrators and the testimonies we call for tactical reasons no details at present," said the police.

After the deadly attack, there was sadness and horror in the city. At the scene, the central Königsplatz, people laid flowers, candles and grave lights burned. Augsburg Mayor Kurt Gribl (CSU) was dismayed by the act. The city has become the scene of a momentous violence, he wrote on his Facebook page. To date, it is known that one of the young men in the group beat the victim against the head. The 49-year-old from the Augsburg district crashed and remained lying on the ground. Even the 50-year-old companion was beaten and injured in the face, the women, however, were not addressed. Emergency physicians were still trying to revive the 49-year-old - but without success: The man died in the ambulance. He was a member of the fire department Augsburg.
