Berlin: Federal government rejects Russian embassy staff

In August, a Georgian was shot dead in Berlin. Now investigates the Attorney General. Two Russian diplomats were declared unwanted.

The Attorney General takes over the investigation into the alleged killings of a Georgian in Berlin. The Federal Prosecutor's Office pursues the initial suspicion that state agencies in Russia or the autonomous republic of Chechnya are behind it, as the authority in Karlsruhe announced. "We have adopted the procedure," said the authority in Karlsruhe.

After the August act, a 49-year-old suspect had been arrested - it has long been speculated that he might have acted on behalf of Russian government agencies. According to the news magazine Der Spiegel , Germany has expelled two Russian embassy employees from the country. The Russian government in Moscow rejected any involvement in the crime.

The 40-year-old victim had been shot from a bicycle in the Kleiner Tiergarten in Berlin. The suspect was arrested, the murder weapon and the suspected escape bicycle seized by the police. The victim is said to have fought against Russia in the so-called second Chechen war.
