2018 - The popular ARD television series "Lindenstraße" will be finished in March 2020 after a good 34 years. This is announced by Westdeutscher Rundfunk in Cologne.

2017 - The Bambi Media Prize of the Burda Publishing House is awarded in Berlin. Best German film is the refugee comedy "Welcome to the Hartmanns". The best actors are Heino Ferch and Alicia von Rittberg.

2014 - Klaus Iohannis wins the presidential election in Romania. For the first time, the country will receive an elected head of state, which belongs to a national minority, with the German-born Iohannis.

1999 - A military court in Turin condemns former SS officer Friedrich Engel to life imprisonment for war crimes in Italy.

1976 - The GDR refuses the regime-critical songwriter Wolf Biermann after his tour through the Federal Republic, the re-entry and deprives him of citizenship.

1939 - Mafia boss Al Capone is released from custody prematurely. He was sentenced in 1931 for tax offenses to eleven years in prison, which he partly sat on the notorious prison island of Alcatraz. Because of advanced syphilis he had become a nursing case.

1909 - The Deutsche Luftschiffahrts-AG (Delag) is founded as the first airline in the world to operate zeppelin traffic.

1907 - Oklahoma becomes the 46th state in the United States of America.

1532 - The Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro undertakes a conquest into the Peruvian highlands and arrests the Inca ruler Atahualpa in Cajamarca.
