Washington (dpa) - The US begins today with the imposition of new punitive tariffs on imports from Europe. Imports of, for example, cheese, wine, butter and olive oil will incur an additional 25 per cent, and aircraft imports 10 per cent. The US had already announced the tariffs in early October in retaliation for illegal EU subsidies for the aircraft manufacturer Airbus. World Trade Organization arbitrators granted the US government the right to levy punitive tariffs of up to 100 percent on $ 7.5 billion worth of goods.
