Ethiopia's Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali receives Nobel Peace Prize - page 1
The Nobel Peace Prize 2019 goes to the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed Ali. This was announced by the Nobel Committee in Oslo. Above all, the peace treaty with the neighboring country Eritrea should be appreciated. In July 2018, Ethiopia and Eritrea signed a peace treaty that ended the 20-year dispute between the countries.
According to the committee, 223 personalities and 78 organizations were nominated this year. The prize, which will be awarded for the 100th time this year, is endowed with 9 million Swedish kroner (around 830,000 euros). He is the only one of the five Nobel Prizes not in Stockholm but in Oslo. The award ceremony takes place there on 10th December, the day of the death of Prizefounder Alfred Nobel (1833-1896).
